Who Taught You to Believe That?

"Perhaps the beliefs that shape your life deserve to be questioned with the same honesty that formed them."
Every belief has a beginning.
Some arrive through words.
Others through silence.
Some are taught around the family table.
Others are learned through disappointment, rejection or loss.
Long before we understood the world, we were already learning how it worked.
We learned what love was supposed to look like.
What strength meant.
What success required.
Whether people could be trusted.
Whether we were enough.
Most of these lessons weren't presented as beliefs.
They were presented as facts.
And because we were young, we accepted them without question.
Years later, many of those beliefs are still quietly shaping our lives.
Not because we've chosen them.
But because we've never stopped to examine them.
A child who was often criticised may grow into an adult who believes they will never be good enough.
Someone who experienced betrayal may conclude that trusting others is dangerous.
A person repeatedly told to put everyone else first may struggle to believe their own needs matter.
These beliefs are understandable.
They were often intelligent responses to the circumstances in which they were formed.
But an intelligent response to yesterday is not always a helpful guide for today.
At The Naked Frog, we don't ask you to judge the beliefs you've inherited.
Nor do we ask you to replace them with ours.
We simply invite you to become curious.
To gently ask:
Is this belief still true?
Does it still serve the life I'm trying to live?
Because the moment you begin questioning a belief with compassion instead of fear, something remarkable happens.
It loses the power to define you.
Perhaps freedom isn't found in believing something new.
Perhaps it begins with discovering that you are free to choose what you believe.
